Signs It May Be Time for More Support
Caring for someone you love is meaningful work- and sometimes, changes in daily tasks signal they may benefit from more support.
- Increased confusion;
- Asking the same questions or losing items frequently;
- Difficulty with cooking, cleaning, bathing or dressing;
- Trouble managing medications;
- Withdrawing from social activities and,
- Frequent falls or balance concerns.
Why Behaviour Happen?
When languages become harder, behavior becomes their voice. Most behaviors come from an unmet need- not from anger, meanness, or “on purpose” actions.
- Pain or discomfort they may not be able to explain it;
- Confusion or fear new place, new faces, too much noise;
- Boredom or overstimulation;
- Loneliness or missing someone;
- Fatigue or changes in routine and,
- Feeling rushed, pressured, or overwhelmed.
Behavioral Support & Gentle Response Strategies
Dementia- related behaviors are messages, not misbehavior. At The Maples, our team takes a calming, person-centered approach to support expressions such as anxiety, restlessness, repetition, pacing, or resistance to care.
- Identifying the trigger- unmet needs, pain, environment, sensory overload;
- Lowering stress- soft voice, slow pacing, gentle presence;
- Validating emotion- meeting the personal where they are, not correcting them and,
- Preserving dignity- never rushing, never forcing, always respecting comfort.
Memory-Friendly Dining & Nutrition Support
Eating can become more challenging with dementia- changes in appetite, difficulty using utensils , or forgetting the steps of eating are all common. A The Maples, we ensure that meals are comfortable, dignified, and stress-free through thoughtful dining practices.
- Calm, clutter-free dining spaces Soft music, low noise, and simple table settings reduce distractions;
- Visual “cueing” plates & utensils Colored plates, high contrast place settings, and adaptive utensils help residents see food more clearly and eat more independently;
- Small, manageable portions We offer food in easy-to-enjoy sizes to maintain appetite and reduce frustration and,
- Finger food options For residents who prefer more independence, we offer items that are simple to hold and eat.
Enhanced Safety Partnership
As apart of our commitment to resident safety, MyLife partners with Victim Services to provide access to the internationally recognized Project Lifesaver program.
- Wearable tracking bracelet Lightweight, comfortable device worn on the wrist or ankle for continuous location support;
- Immediate alert activation If a resident is reported missing, local, trained police are notified immediately;
- Specialized police response Officers use advance radio-frequency tracking equipment to locate the individual quickly and accurately;
